I Just Wanted a Shortcut

What I actually wanted was really simple. I'm typing somewhere on my Mac — Slack, email, Notion, whatever — and I want to select what I wrote, hit something, and have it fixed. Right there. Not in another tab. Not in a chat window. Right where I'm already writing.

And I want it to use my prompt. The one I already tested. The one that gives me natural Korean every time, not the one I half-type at 4pm when I'm tired. I want that prompt saved somewhere, and I want to just trigger it. Like a shortcut.

Every time I use it, it should be a fresh request. Clean context. No chat history piling up and slowly degrading the output. Just: here's my text, here's my tested prompt, give me the result. Same quality whether it's the first use or the five hundredth.

The thing that actually surprised me is how quickly it stopped being about Korean. Once you have something that runs any prompt on any text, anywhere on your Mac, you start using it for everything.

I have a prompt that fixes my English emails — makes them more direct, less rambly. I have one that explains words to me in Russian, which is my native language, because sometimes reading a definition in English doesn't click but the Russian one does instantly. I have one that just checks spelling without changing my tone. I have one that rewrites things to be simpler.

If you're a developer, you could have one that converts code between languages, or adds error handling, or generates a timestamp in whatever format you need. Whatever you keep going to ChatGPT for — that can just be a saved prompt that works everywhere.

And the text gets replaced in place. I don't copy anything. I don't paste anything. I don't switch tabs. I select, I trigger, it's done. That entire loop — the copy, the tab switch, the paste, the wait, the copy again, the tab back, the paste again — it just goes away.

That's what I built. Not because I had some grand idea. I was just tired of the loop.

That's ElastoType. It's free. Try it yourself.
